Colyer confident following clashes against Magpies

West Coast Fever midcourter Ingrid Colyer says the side’s pre season hit outs against Magpies Netball last December would hold them in good stead for the remainder of the pre season.

Fever played two matches against the highly-fancied Magpies at the State Netball Centre, overcoming a narrow loss in the first match to run out convincing winners in the second.

The West Coast side returned to pre season training last week, with pre season matches against the Queensland Firebirds scheduled for February.

“It was good to see where we were at and what we can build on for the rest of pre season,” Colyer said.

“The lungs were puffing, but I think this time of year match fitness is something we’re still working on, and you only get better by putting yourself out there.”

“We showed that we are working really hard, so now we just need to keep that consistency and we’ll be in a good spot for the season,” she said.

Fellow young gun Annika Lee-Jones relished her time on court, lining up on Samsung Diamonds shooter Caitlin Thwaites.

“I was pretty happy with how I played on her and the improvement I’ve made from last season to now,” Lee-Jones said.

“We’ve definitely got a few areas we need to work on, but we’re on a very good track heading forwards into the season.”

West Coast Fever will face the Queensland Firebirds in two pre season matches in February, before the second season of Suncorp Super Netball commences in April.

Fever will open their account with an away game against the Adelaide Thunderbirds before returning home to face the Magpies in a Saturday night blockbuster at Perth Arena on May 5.
