West Coast Fever athletes continue to prepare for the second season of Suncorp Super Netball, as they returned to the State Netball Centre this morning for the second week of pre season training.
With Courtney Bruce, Stacey Francis and Jhaniele Fowler-Reid away on international duties, the remaining squad have been busy in the gym and on the court, with a number of players completing testing this morning.
Most athletes were then challenged in a demanding conditioning block with Athletic Performance Coach Liam Warwick, while others were put through their paces by Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich in a variety of on court drills.
Marinkovich said she’s been impressed with the way her side has returned.
“The way in which we target the pre season has certainly changed with our athletes now being contracted for 12 months,” Marinkovich said.
“Given the significant time before our first game, we are really taking a progressive and individualised approach in developing and challenging our athletes both mentally and physically.”
“They have all returned from the break in good shape, and it’s certainly encouraging to see them continue to work hard so early in pre season.”
Sentiments echoed by Warwick.
“We have got the athletes back in to do some targeted conditioning, and it’s been great to see them all out on the track,” Warwick said.
“The athletes have been working hard in the sessions we have had so far, and that’s something we’re certainly happy with.”
The players will return to the gym tomorrow morning, before working through another conditioning session on Thursday afternoon.
