SKG Radiology Injury Report: Shannon Eagland

Eagland exemplary in knee rehabilitation

West Coast Fever defensive midcourter Shannon Eagland continues to make significant strides in her rehabilitation, four months post the surgery to repair her ruptured ACL.

Eagland ran for the first time since surgery last week at Fever’s training base at the State Netball Centre, a significant milestone witnessed by a number of her teammates and Club staff who were there to support.

The 26-year-old said it was a moment made even more special courtesy of the support network.

“To be honest there was a few little tears in the eyes in those first steps,” Eagland said.

“I had no idea everyone was going to be there and it was really special because while it hasn’t been the most pleasant of journeys, I have had the support of entire Club for every step so it was nice to be able to share that moment with them.”

The Victorian native missed much of the inaugural season of Suncorp Super Netball, and her first with Fever, after sustaining the injury in the opening minutes of the Round 4 clash against the Melbourne Vixens.

Her attitude towards her rehabilitation though, and her willingness to continue to play a role within the Club, has attracted widespread praise, and provided a boost for her teammates throughout the 2017 campaign.

It’s an approach Eagland said she was adamant to maintain.

“I’ve approached my rehab in exactly the same manner I would my court work and what I take into a game.”

“I am determined to put myself in the best possible position to return at full strength at the beginning of next season and I know how hard I have and will have to work to ensure that happens.”

“Running for the first time was a significant step but it is just one in a series I will have to take between now and April next year."
