West Coast Fever midcourter Jess Anstiss has been rewarded for an outstanding Suncorp Super Netball debut season by being named in the 2017 Australian Netball World Youth Cup Team.
A product of the Netball WA High Performance pathway, Anstiss represented Western Australia at 17U, 19U and Western Sting level, and was rewarded with a West Coast Fever contract for the inaugural season of Suncorp Super Netball.
The 20-year-old has been a regular starter in the Fever line-up since making her debut in Round 1 against the Adelaide Thunderbirds, and has shown her strengths across all three midcourt positions throughout the season.
Anstiss’ defensive pressure and timing on the ball has been a feature of her game, with the youngster regularly gaining possession for her side while shutting down her opponents.
Her 26 interceptions are the eighth most in the League, and the most by any midcourter in the competition.
West Coast Fever Executive Officer Tamara Sheppard congratulated Anstiss on being named in the team.
“Jess’ selection is testament to her hard work within the Fever environment, both on and off the court, and as a Club we congratulate her,” Sheppard said.
“Jess is not only a hard working player on the court, but a valued team mate who is selfless, dedicated and passionate about this club.”
“There is no greater honour than representing your country, and I’m certain it is an opportunity Jess will grasp with both hands.”
West Coast Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich echoed Sheppard’s sentiment.
“Since joining the Club at the end of 2016, Jess has fit seamlessly into the Club and her performances in the world’s best domestic netball competition have been outstanding,” Marinkovich said.
“It’s fantastic to see those performances rewarded with National 21U selection, and we look forward to keeping track of her progress in Botswana in July.”
Fever Training Partner Sophie Garbin was also named as a Training Partner of the World Youth Cup Team following her outstanding work in the Fever environment across the 2017 campaign, as well as her sensational Australian Netball League campaign, in which she broke the record for most goals in a season.
The 2017 Netball World Youth Cup will be held in Gaborone, Botswana from 9-16 July.
