Midcourter Ash Brazill and Shooter Caitlin Bassett have been re-appointed as West Coast Fever Captain and Vice-Captain respectively for the 2016 ANZ Championship season.
Head coach Stacey Rosman informed the playing group during the season induction meeting at the State Netball Centre.
It will be Brazill’s second season leading the Fever squad, while for Bassett, the news comes following her role as acting Vice-Captain during the Australian Diamonds tour of England last month.
“It’s an incredible honour to lead this team,” Brazill said.
“We made significant strides as a team last season but know we must raise the bar again to remain competitive, so I’m excited about the prospect of pushing ourselves to the next level.”
“I’m also lucky to have a player of Caitlin’s calibre and experience alongside me in this role and I know it’s a partnership I certainly benefit from, both as a player and a leader.”
The pair’s leadership was an important element in the club’s most successful ANZ Championship season last year, and it is a combination Rosman was keen to continue to nurture.
“Ash and Caitlin complement each other so well in their roles as Captain and Vice-captain of our side,” Rosman said.
“The girls responded positively to their leadership in what was a benchmark season for us last year and, as a result, we felt stability in such important positions would benefit the team moving forward.”
Brazill and Bassett, along with Nat Medhurst and April Brandley returned to Fever pre-season training this morning following the Diamonds tour of England.
The team has put their heart, soul and sweat into the first fortnight of 2016 preparations as they set their sights on Fever’s official pre-season competition, The Challenge, at the end of this month.
