West Coast Fever and Giants Netball will face off for the second consecutive week in this Saturday’s Major Semi Final, with a home Grand Final on the line. It’s Fever’s second trip to Sydney in a matter of weeks, with a new time and venue the only differences between the two games.
Fever will travel to Sydney on Thursday morning for the crucial clash, with Verity Charles cleared of any major damage to her knee, after tangling with Giants Captain Kim Green last weekend.
All out attack
The Giants were clinical in the opening three quarters of last weekend’s game, leading by 14 goals at three quarter time, before a complete turnaround by Fever in the final term. Jo Harten spearheaded the attack, with 34 goals from 40 attempts, 24 centre pass receives and five goal assists. Susan Pettitt was also damaging in the goal circle with 35/40, while Kim Green finished with 32 goal assists, 17 centre pass receives and 52 feeds.
For Fever, Jhaniele Fowler shot 63/72, while Nat Medhurst had 35 goal assists, 21 centre pass receives and 50 feeds. Verity Charles led the court for interceptions with three, while also collecting 22 feeds and seven centre pass receives.
End of season numbers
Jhaniele Fowler ended the season with another 60+ goal haul, with 63/72, to finish the year with 783 goals to her name from 846 attempts. Courtney Bruce continued her rapid rise, ended the year with 81 deflections and 37 intercepts, while leading the League with 28 defensive rebounds. Nat Medhurst finished the year second in the goal assists category with 394.
