The NSW Swifts have made a solid start to their 2018 campaign, sitting fourth on the ladder with two wins and one loss. All their matches have been close encounters, with one-goal wins in Rounds 1 and 3, and a two-goal loss to the Vixens in Round 2. With a percentage of an even 100, the Swifts have shown a clear balance between attack and defence. Fever, in contrast, have started the season on fire with three straight wins, including an epic one goal win over last year’s premiers Sunshine Coast Lightning last round.
Swifts Goal Keeper Sarah Klau has started her 2018 campaign in blistering form. With five intercepts and 14 deflections in 2018, Klau’s ability to stop opposition attacks and create drive from the defensive third has been superb and is a key reason behind the Swifts 2-1 start to the year. However, Klau will have her work cut out for her against Jhaniele Fowler, who is currently the leading goal scorer in the competition with 167.
All Out Attack
Paige Hadley and Maddie Proud have proved themselves dangerous around the shooting circle this season, combining for 97 goal assists. Swifts shooters Helen Housby and Sam Wallace have benefitted greatly from Hadley and Proud’s work up the court, scoring 71 and 64 goals respectively.
The Swifts will embark on their biggest flight of the season this weekend, with their only travel thus far being a trip to Melbourne. Fever on the other hand have completed trips to Adelaide and the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the opening three rounds.
