West Coast Fever’s record breaking on court performances have helped the atmosphere at the Club’s home games jump to a new level, but some of the credit must go to the ‘Dancing Dad’.
Matt Gaunt and his family are in their second year as Fever members, with Gaunt now a home game fan favourite, courtesy of the Dancing Dad camera.
Although a number of dad’s have gone to the effort to show off their alleged dance moves, in the last month it’s been Gaunt’s energetic rumble that’s enlisted an eruption of cheers during Fever’s home games.
The father of two said it’s simply a wonderful chance to spend quality time with his family.
“No one should be embarrassed to get up and dance, I just get up there and say come on, we can all get up there and do this and have a bit of fun.”
“It doesn’t have to be perfect, it doesn’t have to be spot on, it’s just about having a great time in the moment you’re in.”
The fast feet father said he has been attracting attention when walking out of the arena, and while some kids may wish to shy away from their father’s antics, his daughter Neve couldn’t be prouder.
“I think he’s awesome,” she said.
Gaunt said being West Coast Fever season members has been a wonderful chance to spend time with the family.
“Both the girls play, but really it was about what is a family event we can do on regular basis,”
“It’s safe, it’s fun, it’s a great atmosphere and a really positive vibe for everyone so that’s why we signed up.”
“There’s such a positive vibe… no one abusing anyone, there is no one putting anyone down, everyone is giving it their all for the Fever, but also acknowledging the other team is putting in a great effort as well.”
As Fever push for a grand finals berth now is the time to jump on board for next season.
